Welcome Merryn!

Our friend's baby girl has arrived safely and almost bang on time. The blanket that I blogged in this post here now has the embroidered patch attached ready to go to it's new home.

Isn't Merryn a lovely and unusual name?

The Smaller Person's friend, Little Miss, is now a very important Big Sister, and so we didn't want to leave her out. I made a crochet Daisy Fairy doll, which we are sending to her with some white chocolate buttons and this 'Big Sister' felt rosette that I made just after I heard little Merryn had arrived.

I sketched out what I intended to do.

The main blue circle was embroidered first, using felt for Peppa's head, dress and the whites of her eyes. I have blanket stitched the edge of the felt pieces, apart from the eyes which are attached with black thread in a french knot. The mouth is a back stitch and the arms, legs and feet are chain stitched. The words are stitched in back stitched metallic pink thread.

I cut a wavy edged circle from bright pink and a strip the same colour felt for the ribbon ends. The strip was folded in half at an angle and placed under the pink wavy edged circle, with the blue embroidered circle on top of both. They're all stitched together with a back stitch in metallic pink thread around the edge of the blue circle (through all 3 layers).

I opened a brooch pin and slipped it through 2 little slits (at each end of the pin) cut into a second blue circle the same size as the first. I stitched this in place with matching blue thread and closed the brooch pin. This second blue circle with the brooch pin attached was blanket stitched in place to cover the back of all the stitching. All finished and ready to go!

You can just about make out the small stitches where the brooch pin is held in place.
Little Miss seems to have quite a few Peppa Pig things, so I'm hoping she recognises Peppa  and likes the badge!

Congratulations to the whole family, and welcome little Merryn Grace-we look forward to getting to know you :)

Finished Daisy Fairy

Here she is, all complete (after seeing her half finished in this post).

I found the hair surprisingly fun to do, but wish I'd made the fringe a little longer.

I'm not as happy with the face as I hoped I'd be, It's nice, but I think it's missing something, I just don't know what. I suppose it's just because I'm thinking of the original which used proper doll eyes rather than black felt like I have used.

I am still very proud of her though. I would definitely like to make another (if I ever find the time!)

Now we're just waiting for her new owner's baby sister to arrive in the world so that Daisy can go to her new home.

Fairy in Progress

Since finishing the last baby blanket, I have been working on this little sweetie to give to another little sweetie who is due to become a big sister at some point over the next couple of weeks.

The pattern is available for free here. I LOVE this pattern. I've found it easy to follow and it has worked up just like the photograph.

I just have to add her features and her hair and then she will have a personality to go with that cute little daisy petal skirt.

Crochet Robot

I'm still creating a few little gifts for my little man who's 2nd birthday is just around the corner. Those who follow me on Facebook will know that I posted a link to this free pattern on Bernat. The Smaller Person loves several things at the moment: Dinosaurs (still), trains, rhinos, monkeys and Robots.

I've Just finished him! I have altered mine slightly so that it is definitely a boy robot. To do this, I left off the bow and antennae on his head, changed the colours and I've altered the face quite a bit. I prefer the bigger eyes and the wider smile. I've worked the whole robot in Cygnet DK.

The screen on his tummy is made from felt. I did toy with the idea of replacing the heart with buttons or even words, but he's kinda cute just like this.

Look! Cute little thumbs - love them!
I was really happy how he was turning out, but when I stitched the legs on, they didn't look quite right. A little fiddling around with the placement, and I'm much happier now. I really hope the Smaller Person likes him! These photos were taken before I changed the legs to the happier version :)
(They're set wider apart now)

I bet you can't guess what I've become addicted to making...

Mini Monsters

I have just finished making two little monsters for my little monster for his upcoming birthday.

They are both made from the same crochet pattern by Alison Hoffman of Craft is Cool (which is available for free here on the Bernat blog). The different sizes have been achieved through different yarn weights and hook sizes.

I used two strands of acrylic DK in Fushcia and a 4.00mm crochet hook for the tiny guy, and Cygnet seriously chunky in Meadow Green with an 8.00mm hook for the lager guy.

I have backstitched the felt eyes in place rather than using fabric glue (like the pattern suggests) so that they hold better.

These were so quick and easy, and actually quite enjoyable to make. I think I'd like to make one a little bigger to complete the family, but I'll have to see what time I have!

Bear in a bag

I've just wrapped up the presents for the party tomorrow. Mr bear has his own sleeping bag. Look how lost he looked on his own.....

I didn't really have as much time as I'd have liked and I kind of made it up as I went along, but I was OK with the end result. I used a teal coloured cotton with a patterned cotton of a slightly paler shade for lining. I was going to put a zip all the way down the side and bottom, but didn't have one long enough, so it's just down the one side.

Once it was finished, it didn't really "look finished, so I added this little chain stitch heart with a pink heart button, then tied a sheer pink ribbon to the zip pull.

Sorry for the bad pictures. By the time I'd finished the light was nearly gone. It's made the colour look a little odd. He's all wrapped up now too, so I can't get any better ones in the morning. Oh well.

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend! x
